The East-West Management Institute (EWMI), with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), is implementing the Promoting Rule of Law in Georgia (PROLoG) activity, the overall goal of which is to strengthen Georgia's justice system to ensure due process, judicial independence, and the protection of human rights.
A key cross-cutting theme of PROLoG, in accordance with Georgia's National Human Rights Strategy, is to promote gender equality, the protection of women's rights, and the prevention of domestic violence. In order to ensure that PROLoG supported activities appropriately address these issues, and to establish a baseline by which the impact of programmatic interventions can be measured in the future, EWMI is recruiting individual consultants or an expert organization with the capacity to conduct a cross-cutting study on Gender and the Law in Georgia.
The objective of the study is to identify significant obstacles to ensuring the protection of the rights of women in Georgia, and will include recommendations for activities to address identified problems, including: policy, legislative and regulatory changes; training initiatives for judges, prosecutors, and lawyers; public outreach and education initiatives; and other activities that may be identified during the course of the study. The study will also develop baseline data by which changes in laws and practices can be measured. The study's findings will be complemented by public opinion and perception polling to be conducted by the Caucasus Research and Resource Center (CRRC) that will be supported by a separate award.
