It's Meghan Markle's first time as guest editor for British Vogue's September issue, but already the eagerly-awaited edition has come under scrutiny - after an image of the cover shared to her official royal Instagram account showed a striking similarity to an Australian book she previously helped produce.
The Duchess of Sussex's issue 'Forces for change' bears a resemblance to 'The Game Changers' - a book authored by 7NEWS reporter, Samantha Brett and Steph Adams.
Both the book and the magazine feature black and white images of powerful women and the word 'change' and Brett and Adams say they have been inundated with messages from people who have noticed the similarity.
Prior to becoming Duchess of Sussex, Meghan wrote an essay for Brett and Adams' book, in which she described herself as "self-sufficient and a go-getter".
"Oftentimes I have to remind myself to take a moment to just breathe," Meghan wrote.
"My brain is always going, but at the end of the day, because it is all stuff that I am passionate about, it’s easier not to feel exhausted as I squeeze it all in."
"Honestly, we are very flattered that the Duchess was inspired by our book and has emulated it in British Vogue," Adams told 7NEWS.com.au.
"Imitation, of course, is the ultimate form of flattery"
Brett added: “It's obviously very flattering, she must like our concept!
"I’m a huge fan of Meghan, but if what people are alerting us to is true, then it is disappointing.
"At the same time, we did our book to support a charity – so hopefully they are doing the same and giving the proceeds to a worthy cause.”
Forces for change
In a post to the sussexroyal Instagram page alongside an image of the Vogue cover, Meghan described her experience of editing as a “rewarding process”.
“These last seven months have been a rewarding process, curating and collaborating with Edward Enninful, British Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief, to take the year’s most-read fashion issue and steer its focus to the values, causes and people making impact in the world today," the duchess wrote.
"Through this lens I hope you’ll feel the strength of the collective in the diverse selection of women chosen for the cover as well as the team of support I called upon within the issue to help bring this to light.
"I hope readers feel as inspired as I do, by the ‘Forces for Change’ they’ll find within these pages.”
The duchess’s Vogue edition will feature 15 women, with black and white photographs of them featured on the cover.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, actresses Salma Hayek and Jane Fonda, young climate change campaigner Greta Thunberg and mental health campaigner Adwoa Aboah are among those featured.
The magazine will be available from this Friday.
