IDPs living in regions will enjoy simple, convenient and quick service in regions. Koba Subeliani, the Minister of IDPs from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia visited newly-opened Reception Center in Kutaisi together with the local government and donors. The Minister himself has served IDPs and noted, that Reception Centre is already operating in 4 regions, which allows IDPs to get quick and convenient service.
Since its launch in July, 2011, the Kutaisi Centre has served more than 1800 visitors. The reception centre was rehabilitated, equipped and staff was trained in order to professionally handle IDP Database and Docsvision programs, legal issues, interpersonal skills and customer service. The Reception centre was launched together with Danish Refugee Council and was financially supported by the European Union and the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency.
As the Minister noted, opening reception centers in many regions will solve the issues: “any problem will be solved in the regions like registration and redirection of IDPs and a lot of bureaucratic procedure, due to which the IDPs and the staff of regional headquarters had to arrive to the Ministry”.Deputy Head of Operations at the EU Delegation, Mr. Stephen Stork noted, that The EU gives great importance to the cooperation with the government, particularly with respect to the IDPs and their assistance and cooperation will continue.
The Ministry has been operating a reception centre for IDPs in Tbilisi for more than a year. Since its opening, the Tbilisi Reception Centre served more than 20,000 IDPs. Having friendly service and trained operators, the center provides consultations and applications for IDP status, housing, social issues as well as changes in the IDP Database. Following its success, four new centres are operating in the ministry’s regional offices Gori, Rustavi, Kutaisi and Zugdidi.
