Three day training “Gender Aspects of Mediation and Role of Women in Conflict Resolution Processes” was held on February 21-23, 2013. Training was organized in the framework of UN Women Cross-regional Programme “Women Connect Across Conflicts: Building Accountability for Implementation of UN SCR 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889”. Main topics of Training were conduct of negotiations, coalition building and mediation techniques.
Training was concducted by International experts Monica and Mary McWilliams. Mary McWilliams is Director of McWilliams Associates, professional trainer, coach and mediator. She has 25 years experience in designing, delivering and evaluating high impact leadership and organisational development programmes. Professor Monica McWilliams is a highly skilled professional with over 20 years experience in human rights, negotiationand conflict resolution including extensive overseas experience with national human rights institutions andinternational organisations.
NGO rpresentatives from Georgia attended the Training during which participants prepared the joint letter to the Prime Minister of Ireland. The letter reflected the main challenges for gender equality and conflict resolution in Georgia.
On March 18, 2013 follow up meeting for the participants of the training was held at UN Women. Two important issues were discussed and the participants agreed on the structure and memorandum on the idea of creation of Coalition/Network. New initiatives in the framework of the second phase of the UN Women Program “Women for Equality, Peace and Development” in the component of people-to-people diplomacy was also discussed during the meeting.
