Taso Foundation has finished presentations of the project Women for Equality Peace and Development in Georgia (WEPD). Presentations were held at the conflict zone bordering villages in Samegrelo and ShidaKartli regions, also in places of compact settlement of internally displaced persons and in the villages of Marneuli municipality populated by the national minority communities.
The last place of the presentation cycle was the Jariasheni village that is the extreme point near the de-facto border of Tskhinvali region. After the recent displacements of the de-facto border the part of the village stayed beyond the border and 32 families had lost 30 hectares of their lands. Unemployment is one of the acute problems of the village.
WEPD project is supported by Norwegian Government and is implementing by UN Women office in Tbilisi in partnership with Women’s Information Center and Taso Foundation. The project Women for Equality, Peace and Development in Georgia implies cooperation, technical and financial assistance to relevant national partners in the government and civil society in order to support the realization of gender equality and the reduction of feminized poverty through addressing women’ social, economic, and political needs, with particular focus on internally displaced, conflict-affected and national minoritywomen’s groups.
