33 000 of Georgia’s war refugees earn too much, will have aid cut

The Refugee Minister Davit Darakhvelidze says about 33 000 refugees might have their 28 lari (USD 16) monthly allowance cut off because they their income is above the 1 500 lari limit.

10 000 of them earn about 20 000-30 000 lari (USD 12 000-USD 18000) per month, while 1 800 have more than 40 000 lari (USD 24 000).
“The Finance Ministry is aware of this information, but all of them still receive monthly refugee allowance, which is 28 lari (USD 16),” he said. “My proposal is not to give these 13 million lari to them, but to give this money to those refugees who need it more.”

According to the most recent data, there are 265 109 refugees in Georgia right now, but the ministry decided to recount them as many families were given false refugee documentation in past years as a way to falsify elections.
