On 15-18 October 2013, Women’s Information Center organized training “Gender Mainstreaming and Women’s Human Rights”.
The representatives of the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees of Georgia, the Government of Abkhazia, lawyers of legal clinics of Imereti, Samegrelo, Kvemo Kartli and the representative of Ombudsman in Kvemo Kartli have attended the training.
Women’s role, existing stereotypes in society, UN mechanisms and instruments in the field of protection of women’s rights, obligations of the country were discussed at the training. CEDAW, National Action Plans 2012-2015 for implementation of UN SCR 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889 and 1960 were presented to the participants. In addition to theoretic materials, training included practical exercises in groups and discussions about different issues.
Training has been held by Manana Jincharadze and Tamar Tomashvili. Training was held in the frame of the project “Women for Equality, Peace and Development” in Georgia, which is implemented by UN Women with the partnership of Women’s Information Center and Taso Foundation, by the support of Norwegian Government. The aim of the project is to support IDPs, conflict affected and national minorities women’s groups and to strengthen their possibilities in order to protect women’s rights and gender equality in Georgia.
