On 22 October 2013,in the Municipality of Marneuli was held joint informational meeting of UN Women and the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia. The meeting was dedicated to protection of women’s health living in the villages of the municipality of Marneuli and their social needs.
The meeting has been attended by the representatives of the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs of Georgia and local government, women’s rights defenders and women, living in the municipality of Marneuli.
It has revealed, that there are many problems: population is not informed about state insurance and healthcare programs, ambulatories and pharmacies are not functioning in villages, therefore population has difficulties to buy medicines. Mostly, people do not get information in language they understand. At the meeting, population of Marneuli was informed in Azerbaijan language and the representatives of the Ministry promised that they will solve their problems in short time.
The project is implemented by UN Women with the partnership of Women’s Information Center and Taso Foundation, by the Government of Norway. The aim of the project is to support IDPs, civil society and the government and to strengthen their possibilities in order to protect women’s rights and gender equality in Georgia.
