Forbes released its annual list of the 400 wealthiest Americans and, as usual, women are heavily underrepresented. 51 female billionaires – or 13 percent – made the list, controlling $290 billion in total. Nevertheless, many of these women inherited their wealth, or share it with their husbands – only seven of them are self-made women (that includes Oprah Winfrey with $3 billion and Elizabeth Holmes, the world’s youngest self-made billionaire with $4.5 billion). The richest woman on the list is Alice Walton, daughter of Wal-Mart founder Sam Walton, at no. 12 with $32 billion, just outshining her sister-in-law Christy who is no. 14, and valued at $30.2 billion.
