On 2 October 2013, “one window shop” principle meeting was held in the conference hall in Samtredia with the support of Women’s Information Center and UN Women in the field of the project “Women for Equality, Peace and Development”. The aim of the meeting was to discuss and solve the problems of IDPs and conflict affected people living in Samtredia. The representatives of local self-government, the Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from Occupied Territories, Accommodation and Refugees, the Ministry of Labour, Health and Social Affairs and other relevant institutions have attended the meeting.
By the end of the meeting, Women’s Information Center proposed to Samtredia city council to appoint gender adviser in self government. This initiative was welcomed and the assistant of the head of the council will be gender adviser. The budget of 2014 will include the costs for this new post. It should be noted, that by the initiative of Women’s Information Center, gender adviser has already been appointed in self-governments of Gori and Zugdidi.
The project “Women for Equality, Peace and Development in Georgia” is implemented by UN Women with the partnership with Women’s Information Center and “Taso” Foundation with the support of the government of Norway. The aim of the project is to support and strengthen the possibilities of IDPs, conflict affected and national minority women’s groups, civil society and the government in order to protect women’s rights and gender equality in Georgia.
