UN Women and Institute for Social Research and Analysis presented results of research of national minorities women’s conditions in Kvemo Kartli.
The aim of the research was to study problems and needs of Azerbaijanian, Armenian and other minorities women in Kvemo Kartli in following spheres: gender equality, domestic violence, health, education, social protection, economic and access to state services.
As the results have shown, most of questioned women are early married. Most of respondents don’t know Georgian, 7% cannot read and write, 33% of them have incomplete secondary education.
It is important, that they have lack of information about state services and programs. Kindergarten is not available for 80% of women, which have preschool children and they tell, that there is no kindergarten in their settlement.
77,6% of questioned women is not informed about the activities and obligations of local self-government organs. Only 3,6% have applied to the police, and 2.3% to the Court in order to solve legal problems. The reason is distrust and lack of information and finances for needed procedures. The research was held in June-September 2013 and 500 women were questioned.
Research of national minorities women’s needs and priorities in Kvemo Kartli was held in the frame of UN Women’s project “Women for Equality, Peace and Development” with the support of the Government of Norway.
