Special Group Investigates Domestic Violence Cases

Category: Gender policy
2010-01-20

Appropriate amendments will be added to the Law of Georgia on “Combating Domestic Violence, Prevention of and Support to Its Victims”. The issue was initiated by the deputy Ms. Rusudan Kervalishvili and was considered during the first Parliamentary hearings by the Committee on European Integration.

“The Special Group will be able to investigate the cases of Domestic Violence and work out the criterion for defining the victim's category. The issue will be given to Ministry of Internal Affairs if necessary”, said Ms. Kervalishvili.

The draft law foresees establishing Crisis Center as a temporary dwelling for the victims of violence. Ms. Kervalishvili added that the Center will not function as a shelter but as a psycho-rehabilitation center for the victims.

NGOs were involved in collaboration process of the Draft Law.
