Gender equality in Georgia

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) presented the results of two studies carried out to assess the situation in Georgia from gender perspective.

The studies Gender and Society and Gender Dimensions of the Financial Policy of Georgia discuss public, private, cultural and political components of gender issues. They examine the situation in different communities, including ethnic minority groups and the displaced.  Furthermore, they review gender aspects of financial policy of Georgia and gender trends in the fields of healthcare, education and labour market.

The research have been carried out by the UNDP Georgia project "Gender and Politics” supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and the Parliament of Georgia.

The event brought together international and local organisations, the government representatives, policy-makers, local authorities, women’s NGOs, experts and academic institutions.

Welcoming remarks werre made by Ms. Rusudan Kervalishvili – Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament and the Chair of the Gender Advisory Council under the Parliament Chairperson; Ms. Louise Bermsjö – Programme Officer/Second Secretary, Embassy of Sweden; and Ms. Inita Paulovica – Deputy Head of UNDP Georgia.
