Executive Director of United Nations Development fund for Women, Ines Alberdi visits Shida Qartli
Gori, 10 May 2010, 15:00 pm, Municipality Building – Executive Director of the United Nations Development Fund for Women (UNIFEM), Ines Alberdi within the framework of her official visit to Georgia will visit Gori to meet with Shida Qartli local government representatives as well as civil society organizations, IDP and conflict-affected women’s groups.
The meeting will be attended by the First Deputy Governor of Shida Kartli, Mr. Giorgi Avaliani; The Head of Municipality apparatus Mr. Khaka Toliashvili and special guestS - Ms. Sabrina Buechler, Human Rights Adviser, The Council of Europe; Representatives of UNHCR Gori Office and Representatives of EU Monitoring Mission.
The aim of the meeting is to present and discuss the human rights concerns of IDP and conflict-affected women, focusing on security, right to access adequate housing, and ways for addressing the identified challenges.
The meeting is organized within the framework of the UNIFEM’s “Women for Equality, Peace, and Development” (WEPD) project supported by the Royal Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway. One of the goals of the project is to ensure the information flow and coordination among key stakeholders in Shida Qartli to ensure protection of the rights of IDP and conflict-affected women. WEPD project seeks to support efforts and capacities of IDP and conflict-affected women’s groups, as well as other national partners from government and civil society to advance gender equality and women’s human rights in Georgia.
After the official meeting in Gori, Ms. Alberdi will visit Caraleti IDP settlement for observing the living conditions and meeting IDP women and their families.
