The Minister of Refugees and Accommodation of Georgia Koba Subeliani held a meeting with the IDPs residing on Beliashvilli Street. The IDPs’ only request was to have living spaces transferred to their ownership. The Minister informed them that 4 buildings will be transferred to IDPs’ ownership within 2 months period.

Koba Subeliani: “On the basis of the president’s order the mentioned living spaces will become the property of IDP families from Abkhazia. Privatization process is ongoing in the whole Georgia. Living spaces were transferred to the ownership of about 16000 IDP families. The process is permanent. Many consider that to put a stamp on a piece of paper is enough for the process implementation that is the wrong approach.”

109 IDP families from Abkhazia live in 3 former buildings of pedagogical university located on Beliashvili Street # 40 and in the former building of kindergarten of Mioni. In the mentioned buildings internal communication system was changed, individual meters were installed and privatization process will start soon. IDPs declare that they are happy with the implemented activities but they will be on a safe side only after privatization of the living spaces.

Nana Surameli, IDP from Abkhazia: “The Minister visited our district several times. He is interested how we live. Nobody paid us attention for 17 years. The roof was changed, individual meters were installed and they do their best to support us. We are looking forward to privatization process of the living spaces. We are grateful for the support. We planned to go to the Ministry but the Minister visited us personally. We trust in him.”
