Philippe Le Houérou, World Bank Vice President for the Europe and Central Asia Region launches his official meetings in Georgia. In the framework of the trip, he visited Berbuki IDP settlement in Berbuki, Shida Kartli Region constructed with financial assistance of the World Bank. Together with the representatives of the Ministry of Refugees and Accommodation of Georgia, Philippe Le Houérou observed the outcomes of the joint activities implemented by the World Bank and the Government of Georgia, talked to IDP community.

Mr. Le Houérou stated: “This is my first trip to Georgia and before meeting with the authorities, I am getting familiar with the joint project implemented by the Government of Georgia and World Bank. I can observe the major progress. World Bank is only funding instrument for the projects and the actual implementation activities are undertaken by the Georgian Authorities. It is noteworthy that the houses were built very quickly and the people were provided with the shelter. You have seen what happened in Haiti, and such projects serve as an example for international community to realize that effective outcomes can be reached through the short period of time. Now we should think about the next stage. Many donors are interested in the projects that are planned here.”

With financial support of the World Bank, the following 8 IDP settlements were constructed in Shida Kartli Region: Akhalsopeli, Berbuki, Teliani, Shavshvebi, Mokhisi, Khurvaleti and Metekhi.
