(Phase 2)

Caucasus Environmental NGO Network (CENN) continuous the implementation of the project “Strengthening and Engagement of Rural Women in Natural Resources Management in the South Caucasus Countries”.

The development goal of the second phase of the project is to ensure sustainable development in the South Caucasus region through sustainable resources management, gender equality, transparency and participatory approaches at the local, national and regional levels.

Within the framework of the initiative strengthening of women's groups in rural areas of Georgia, Armenia and Azerbaijan and support to their active involvement in natural resources management to ensure sustainable community and regional development will be implemented.

The main target groups of the project are rural women councils (RWCs) in the bilateral communities of Khrami-Debed (in Armenia and Georgia) and Alazani (Azerbaijan and Georgia) transboundary river basins and organizations working on women and natural resources management issues which were established during the first phase of the project.

The area of implementation of the project in second phase will be increased and RWCs from 6 new communities will be involved. Their selection was implemented on the basis of acute environmental problems in all three countries of the South Caucasus.

Presently, RWCs are working in the communities of Ratevani, Gulgula-Pshaveli, Shnogh, and Gerekhli-Ashagi Tala. With the support of CENN’s initiative, the local women gathered, established strong groups, and became actively involved in solving the problems existing in their villages. As a result of their purposeful work, the Rural Women Councils have found solutions to problems which previously remained unsettled throughout the years. Collaboration with governmental, non-governmental and business sectors, as well as media representatives, was established. The implemented trainings greatly contributed to awareness-raising toward various issues, which is very significant for the future work of the women.

During the second phase, the existing Rural Women Councils (RWCs) will be involved in the establishment and development of new Rural Women Councils (RWCs).

The initiative is being implemented with the financial support of EED.
