Category: Gender in Caucasus
2013-11-25

Kato Mikeladze Award is created to honor women’s rights activists and celebrate International Women Human Rights Defenders Day on November 29, 2013. Launched in 2004, November 29th is a day for the recognition and protection of women human rights defenders who are activists advocating for the realization of all human rights for all people.

Women’s Fund in Georgia has established Kato Mikeladze Award for the women human rights defenders in Georgia, which every year will be awarded to one woman activist. This year, the candidate will be nominated from WFG’s grantee groups and determined by WFG’s Board of Directors’ and Advisory Council’s votes.

Kato Mikeladze was a feminist, women’s rights activist and publicist in 20th century Georgia. WFG believes that this award will inspire women’s rights defenders in their struggle for justice.

Award ceremony will be held on November 29, at 8 pm. at Café Frontline (Address: 3 Takhaishvili Str., Tbilisi).
