Women’s Organizations Making Special Announcement on Local Elections

Georgia, Tbilisi, 9 May 2014, Friday, 12:30 pm _ Prime Time press club. At the initiative and facilitation of Women’s Information Center, press conference will be held in Prime Time press club. Women’s organizations will make special announcement on women’s participation in local elections 2014. They are calling upon political parties, to support and ensure women’s involvement in politics in such an important period for the country, thus facilitating women’s active engagement in decision making process, as well as development of parties.


NGOs are willing to help political parties in making contact with active, appropriately trained and competent women throughout Georgia, and in training of women members of the party in different directions as well.
Press conference will be held within the framework of the project “Women as Actors for Change and Empowerment”.

 


About the project “Women as agents for change and empowerment”

 

Project is being implemented by Women’s Information Center, with the support of US Agency for International Development (USAID), and in cooperation with Taso Foundation, Association of Young Economists of Georgia, Institute for War and Peace Reporting (IWPR), and Gali based organization, in Tbilisi, Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Kakheti, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Imereti and Gali regions. The project is aimed at promoting women’s political participation and political and economical empowerment by mobilizing community, and based on research of local needs in target regions.
