Vacancy announcement for the position of Lawyer

The Women's Information Center (WIC) is making a vacancy announcement for the position of Lawyer.

 

The lawyer should have the knowledge about Georgian legal system and harmonization process of Georgian legislation in accordance of EU standards; be familiar with Gender Equality principles, ongoing legal processes in Georgia, and take responsibility for stay abreast of national developments.

 

Specific responsibilities will include:

 

** Provide legal counseling;
** Support follow up legal action and services for specific cases of violation of women's or members of their families human rights, including making of a court representation of the claimants in most problematic and critical cases;
** Prepare analytical documents;
** Regularly analyze and provide opinions on Georgian legislation;
** Write reports, protocols and other kinds of written materials on Georgian legislative process;
** Liaise with state institutions and NGOs to gain relevant information, coordinate the work and jointly seek remedies for the identified needs and concerns;
** Available for field visits in target regions with Project Team and attend the "One Window Shop" principle meetings
** Prepare relevant weekly updates, monthly and annual reports, success cases and/or other project-related materials for WIC's use as requested by the management;
** Academic Background: University degree in Law
** At least two to three years of relevant professional experience;
** Experience of court representation of the claimants;
** Strong commend of Georgian, English and Russian languages, both written and spoken;
** Experience in collecting and analyzing legal documents and good reporting skills;

 

Competencies:

 

Technical/Functional:

 

** Good knowledge of Georgian civil, administrative, labor, gender equality, entrepreneur laws and experience of legal practice;
** Solid knowledge of international human rights instruments, especially of the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and UNSCR 1325 and 1820 will be an asset;
** Understanding of gender equality and women's rights issues (as provided by CEDAW);
** Experience in working with international or national civil society organizations in similar projects will be an asset;
** Excellent communications and inter-personal skills;
** Fluency in Georgian/English/Russian is required
** Computer literacy
** Ability to work as a member of a team;
** Ability to approach work with energy, commitment and a positive, constructive attitude;
** Ability to provide required information accurately and in an interesting manner and search for new information;
** Strong organizational and time management skills; ability to meet deadlines.

 

The recruitment procedure consists of the following stages: preliminary selection, if necessary job-related tests, and an interview. Depending on the number of applicants, the length of the required professional experience may be increased. The successful candidate will be appointed on an initial contract; the first 3 month of employment will constitute a probationary period. Provided the staff members' work is considered satisfactory, he/she may be offered contracts of fixed term duration.

 

Following this competition, a list of eligible candidates, in order of merit, for posts or positions with identical duties and qualification requirements may be established. It will be notified to the applicants concerned. This list will be valid for six month with the possibility of extending it to a maximum of 1 year. During the period of validity of the list, candidates on the list may be offered employment should an identical post. It should be noted that placement on this list does not give candidates the right to an appointment within the Women's Information Center. WIC welcomes applications from all suitably qualified candidates, irrespective of gender, disability, marital or parental status, racial, ethnic or social origin, color, religion, belief or sexual orientation.

The application consisting of a CV, cover letter, as well as contact details of two referees (must be in English) should be hand-delivered in a sealed envelope and labelled only as "Lawyer, WIC". The envelopes with the respective label on it should be delivered at WIC office at the following address: 40, Tsinamdzgvrishvili Street, 0102, Tbilisi, Georgia.
