UN Women organized presentation of study on legal needs of internally displaced and national minority women in Courtyard Marriott hotel on November 27. Besides civil sector, representatives of government also attended the event. Results of the study shows: Majority of members of IDP and national minority women’s families are unemployed; small number of women count themselves as self-employed; percentage of student women is low; 78% of national minority women have no profession; percentage of IDP women who have no profession is much lower; for majority of both national minority and IDP women secondary education is last completed education; 27,1% of IDPs have higher education; majority of national minority women cannot speak, write, read or understand Georgian; about quarter – 22.9% only understands Georgian, but cannot read or write; only 9,2% says that they are able to speak, read and write Georgian well.
Deputy Minister of IDPs, Grigol Giorgadze was attending the meeting. He emphasized once again readiness of the state to solve these problems.
Women’s Information Center was one of the partners of the UN in the process of implementation of the project. Organization carried out some works in the frame of project. Approximately 500 internally displaced and 200 national minority women have been surveyed for the study.
Study was conducted by the Institute of Social Studies and Analysis in Gori, Rustavi, Zugdidi and Kutaisi. Presentation and discussion lasted for three hours. Participants of the meeting believe that these results will play an important role in solution of the problem.
