Charity Helping Women of Moldova

The centres are described as having a family-style environment
A Peterhead-based charity has built two centres in Moldova to stop teenage orphan girls being trafficked into the sex trade, it has revealed.

The New Hope Trust said thousands were being targeted when they have to leave orphanages with virtually nothing at the age of 16.

The charity helps the girls with their studies and work.

The trust's Philip Cameron, who visits the safe houses regularly, said the girls were now aware of the dangers.

Mr Cameron is called "Daddy" by the girls in what is described as a family-style environment.

"Our continual mantra with these kids is be careful wherever you go.

"There are tens of thousands of these kids.

"When they are 16, the government gives them a bus ticket and £20."

One of the girls, aged 18, said: "It's very very difficult. We have to be careful."

Moldova is one of Europe's smallest and poorest countries.
