NGO and Governmental Cooperation across the South Caucasus to Develop a Joint Response to Trafficking in Women and Children

On May 8, at the hotel Ambassador was held a conference in connection with the project: “NGO and Governmental Cooperation across the South Caucasus to Develop a Joint Response to Trafficking in Women and Children” (2007-2009). This project is funded by the European Union. It is implemented by People’s Harmonious Development Society.

Specific objectives

- Regional research and regular monitoring of the situation on combating trafficking on Southern Caucasus
- Establishing South Caucasus Anti-Trafficking Centre
- Conducting Workshops and Conferences
- Informational Campaign in Countries
- Establishing international network of Safe Houses
- Establishing International Network of Hot Lines
- Informational-Analytical Data Base

- Hope & Help ( Armenia)
- Azerbaijani Young Lawyers Association

Conference is led by Reet Laia, Estonia, project director. Among the reporters are Rousudan Kirvalishvili _ Deputy Head of Parliament of Georgia, Thomas Luck _ ambassador of Estonia, Tsovinar Nazarova, Georgia, Peoples’ Harmonious Development Society, Elmari Mamishev _
Young Lawyer’s Association of Azerbaijan, Katerina Levchenko - LaStrada Ukraine, Eleonora Virapyan _ Minister of social and labour affairs of Armenia, Tatyana Khelshevnikova _ independent expert from Russia, Khatuna Chitanava _ Young Lawyer’s Association of Georgia.

Participants of the conference discussed development their joint response to trafficking in women and children. Thomas Luck stated:-”The problem is global and it does not only takes place in South Caucasus. I am always ready to support Georgia to combating Trafficking. “


The participants mentioned that Law on Trafficking in Georgia is improved but it takes certain period of time and finances to implement the law. This process is sufficiently hard and full of problems. Many things need to be done in order to improve relations between organizations and develop NGO and governmental cooperation.
